out of the chaos caused by the event horizon emerges the last web incarnation of curt's imagination, proximal development. that's right, i overthrew the the disorder that was the event horizon and replaced it with proximal development. you will also notice that the annoying third person who kept talking about me is gone. the web site is all mine again which isn't necessarily a good thing now is it?
this design is a relative departure from the previous one, but all the stale content has now been removed. the color scheme of blue, green, and yellow reflects a little of each of my alma maters (fraser, wayne, michigan, and eastern). enjoy the rotating collection of pictures at the top of the page. as you might guess, i enjoy travelling so they each reflect a stop along my travels. the pictures displayed are pulled from a set of pictures, so you will see a different set each day. they haven't been updated in a long time though.
i'm sure you are curious about the name of my new web site. you might be interested in what proximal development actually is. if you aren't interested, that's too bad...you can just stop reading if you would like...perhaps you might want to go visit slashdot instead? anyway, merriam-webster defines proximal as situated close to and development as the act, process, or result, of going through a process of natural growth, differentiation, or evolution by successive changes. it actually originates in educational psychology where the zone of proximal development refers to the area where a child can not solve a problem alone, but can be successful under adult guidance or in collaboration with a more advanced peer.
for historical purposes, i originally created this web site while i was a member of the parallel and distributed computing laboratory at wayne state university. i made some major changes when i entered the electrical engineering and computer science department at the university of michigan in ann arbor. my personal web site found a permanent home here at www.gomulinski.com in april of 2002. this version was brought on-line on december of 2004. i officially removed all the stale links in june of 2016. you can find why i am up to on my facebook or linkedin pages.
